This maze is meant for you! Create this fast and easy poncho featuring the maze from Westworld with this FREE silhouette file.
I was creating my Delores Abernathy costume for a friend’s Westworld finale party but my husband didn’t have anything to wear. He’s not big on costumes so I needed something that he could throw on over his usual t-shirt and khaki shorts. It’s quick and easy!
Materials:
– I used Simplicity Pattern 7173 Misses’ One-Size Jiffy Poncho. It’s an easy pattern but you can easily create a poncho by cutting a large rectangle (just double the length you want in the front) and add a circle in the middle for your head. The pattern includes a collar and just slips over the head.
– 2 yards of brown canvas from Joanns.
– 8 + yards of fringe trim to cover the edges
– Textured or embossed gold Heat Transfer Vinyl
– Brown cowboy hat
I created the brown poncho first and added the trim to cover the edges. I used a sewing machine to attach the trim but you could easily use a fabric glue (I like Aleene’s fabric glue).
For the maze, I used the free Silhouette software and my Cameo to cut the giant maze out of embossed gold Heat Transfer Vinyl. I wanted the maze to cover the majority of the poncho and my Cameo can only cut 12in wide so I split the design in half using the knife feature and cut each side separately in 12 x 24 pieces using the extra long mat. After weeding the design, I ironed on one side at a time to line up the design. The embossed effect helps to hide the cut line.
